MY MEDIA COURSEWORK - MAKING A HORROR FILM.

INSPIRATION - HORROR FILMS

Picture
As I was thinking about the brief for our AS practical, I watched a lot of horror films. Films like The Stranger and the orphanage where some of the film that I liked and were really scary. I sllowly realised that all the films i watched had something similar, so I started to identify the conventions and codes in all of them. These included:
- Blood, death, knifes, killing and sometimes things that are associated with violence and what results is e.g. Graveyards ect.
- Haunted houses, isolated locations, evil and monsters.
-  The all flow a narrative patten usually
          Equilibrium-disequilibrium-new state of equilibrium
-  Usually suspence is created in the audience with the music and soundtracks, they are ire and cold.
- Horror films use enigma codes to scare auidiences
So after looking at what makes a good horror movie i had an idea of what i needed to include into my trailer.

Plot Summary/Synopsis

Evelyn Brown has never been good at psycoanalysis, until she meet a feeble apparition whose life she supossedly damaged so badly she wants to ruins eve`s forever. The price is too high, the compensation Savannah wishes is inconcievable and all Eve can reclaim to safley transport Savannah to her awaiting afterlife is to make sure she is crossing that thin line between the living and the dead too, albeit Savannah is not one of the living. Her shadows never appear, her footsteps are never heard, she never inhales or exhales, her pulse is non- exsistant and her heart never beats, Eve`s sucess in life made her believe that she would always know the right answer that she would never have to doubt her initative although it seems she is being double-guessed. Savannah is always one step head but Eve knows that you shouldnot hate the player but hate the game. she is no ready to call Savannahs bluff.

Eve was the girl in high school who sat in the cornor with her ready made bramley pie courtsey of her over indulgent mother. Tabitha Brown had always wrapped Eve in cotton wool, sheilding her ever juberient daughter from all the fatalities of the world. Eve resented her Mothers over protectiveness, felt she was always being underestimated and relished the chance to contridict her mothers choices. Eve needed to join the cheerleading squad, she has the legs for it her mother so often reminded her with a side smile which Eve perceived was meant as selfgratification that she had created a daughter so magnificently graceful. Her father was the most unobservent man in the history of men created, the irony was my mother was so professionaly grommed so immaculate everyday but for what reason her husband very rarely noticed although her mother was the reincarnation of betty davis she had the looks too. Eve could scold her mother for all sorts of reasons but could never accuse her of not dressing up correctly for the occasion. Eve and her mother were so different, her mothers idea of fun was meeting up in oxford street for a "spot" of shopping which always turned into a

As she opens the front door she sees her next door neighbour looking at her through a small opening of the door. She askes her if she has seen Ben, she slams the door shut before Lilly gets to her. Not knowing what to do she takes the lift down to the ground floor. Uneasy as she already is she starts to hears voices in the lift, she gets to the ground floor and the doors open. She feels cold as she gets out of the lift as there is a chill in the air, the concierge isnt there, she checks the phone there and as she expected it is not working. As she looks to the glass-doors she sees a little girl in a blue coat (Jenny) looking past the glass at her, Lilly starts to walk to her slowly. When she gets to the doors she looks at the girl and realises that her coat got a tag on it which says 'Jenny'.

Shocked that she didnt believe her son Lilly asks Jenny if she has seen Ben. Jenny smiles an evil smile and nods her head to say she has, Lilly asks her nicely but aware that this kid isnt normal, if she can tell her. Then she hears a whisper behind her and turns to look for what it was, when she turns back Jenny has disappeared. The whispers continues.

She opens the door and looks around, Jenny seems to have disappeared. Lilly walks out of the doors and to the nearest park, no one is around and the atmophere is cold and ire. She starts to call Bens name with plead in her voice and tears rolling down her cheeks, then she sees her again. Jenny is swinging happily on one of the swings. Lilly hesitates but walk towards the swings and as she does the child's swinging becomes slower and slower eventually coming to a stop.

Lilly confused and cold kneels down next to the child and says,' I am not going to hurt you, i just want to find my son, Ben.. have you seen him!'.  before Lilly can stop her the child pushes her violently (she is stronger than a child of her age would be) and runns passed her, but when she gets to the end of the gates she stops and waves Lilly towars her. Lilly follows. Jenny leads Lilly to a graveyard, Lilly is now scared but curious of this young child. She continues to follow her, as she straggles to keep up with Jenny, Lilly realises that she has been here before (this is where her husband is buried) as they walk nearer and nearer to where she buried her late husband, Lilly loses Jenny, she disappeared again). Now Lilly is standing in this dark and cold graveyard, ALONE. She walks to her husbands graveyard, confused as to why Jeny brought her here. What she find is that there next to her husbands grave is her sons name:

In loving memory, beautiful son and grandson
